jarmund/vigsnaes arkitekter shapes rabot tourist cabin in norway

Located 1,200 meters above sea level in the okstindan mountain range, the ‘rabot tourist cabin’ is one of many lodging facilities built across norway. designed by jarmund/vigsnaes arkitekter, the highly durable structure is named after the french geographer charles rabot who explored the region in great detail.

Aet amid the rugged terrain, the site is inaccessible via road and is only reachable on foot or by ski. the main cabin, which is supplemented by a secondary rescue hut, is shaped by the behavior of snow and heavy winds with no protruding elements. two large chimneys respond naturally to the undulating terrain, forming two man-made peaks above the simple timber volume below.
